CENTER FOR EFFECTIVE DISCIPLINE ACTIVITIES 2007 - 2008Program: Planned and carried out activities for SpankOut Day USA April 30th initiated for EPOCH-USA in 1998 including carrying out a competitive mini-grants application program, bestowing and monitoring 41 grants, providing material and technical support to grantees, and conducting a media campaign on SpankOut Day. Carried out and reported correlation studies on Fact vs. Opinion on www.stophitting.org – refuting myths about outcomes of banning school corporal punishment Researched and developed fact sheets on corporal punishment of children for policy makers and www.stophitting.org Surveyed Ohio public school superintendents in districts reporting corporal punishment to EMIS to confirm numbers submitted and reported on it to public policy makers and the media Developed a summary report on the USDOE OCR paddling numbers for 2006 and placed results on www.stophitting.org Updated sections of www.stophitting.org including corporal punishment school laws, child care laws, foster care laws, institutions for children laws, and policies of l00 largest school districts Coordinated the development and endorsement process for a report on research on corporal punishment of children in the U.S. for EPOCH-USA Provided responses to parenting questions on discipline through the Q and A of www.stophittihg.org Monitored and provided informational support for school corporal punishment legislation in Ohio and Kentucky Edited and distributed the EPOCH-USA newsletter to almost 5,000 individuals and organizations Provided regular email updates and alerts for e-lists Developed and initiated two contests for children on essays and images about corporal punishment for www.stophitting.org Served as a state, national and international resource to the media upon request including policy makers, researchers, students and the general public Made presentations on the Ohio corporal punishment bill at the Ohio Domestic Violence Caucus and other venues Coordinated numerous website updates with the www.stophitting.org webmaster Management Began development of an operations manual Developed and had the Board approve an emergency succession plan for CED Updated the strategic plan for CED Made annual reports including a federal 990 form, reports to the State Attorney General, City charitable licensing reports, and the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Program Coordinated the Board Annual Meeting and bi-monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees Maintained activity reports, financial records and various e-lists Fundraising Sought operational funding and funding for SpankOut Day grants through fundraising letters and letters of inquiry Monitored and reported to funders on current grants from the Dave Thomas Foundation, the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund and Google Adwords.
